Elaine Nahman's Gardens Page 2
Elaine strokes one of her four beloved horses. She cares for the horses while spending a lot of time on her gardens in the spring. She says, however, that by July her gardens are on "autopilot". She has the gardens set up so that weeds cannot grow through the heavy mulch.
(left) This coral delphinium is an absolutely amazing color.
(above center) A weathered stump holds a pot of flowers and provides a focal point for this section of the garden.
(above ) Hybrid lilies give splashy garden color in July.
(left) This zinnia is a new one called "Zowie", and its brilliant yellow and orange color attracts the eye immediately. Elaine says that the color is so demanding that she places it by itself, but surrounded by complementery plants such as the purple ageratum.
(right) This garden is a good example of planning for height and color. Annuals at the bottom are the pink petunias with their purple centers. Above the petunias are more bedding plants in pink and purple. The next layer of color is provided by the gorgeous pink lilies (as shown in closeup at the top of the page). Topping the arrangement are blue delphiniums.
