Oneonta Garden Club Spring Luncheon 2010

The Oneonta Garden Club met for their annual spring luncheon at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown on May 10, 2010. The photo above shows the club's 2010-2011 officers as they were being installed. As well as the installation, the club enjoyed a presentation by Mary Leonard of Carefree Gardens, a garden center near Cooperstown. Mary brought with her a large variety of baskets, arrangements, potted plants, and tropical plants. She introduced some interesting combinations of plants, discussed the sun and shade needs for various plants and offered the plants for sale.

Because it is impossible to put many photos on our website, I have created a slideshow out on the web where there are 34 photos from the spring luncheon. If you would like to see this slideshow, click on the following link:

This basket is typical of the baskets available at Carefree Gardens. Featured in this basket is a petunia that is new and unusual. It is a supertunia, a petunia that needs little care. It does not need dead heading as it cleans itself, a tremendous advantage. The color combination of magenta centers and green edges is striking. With it are bacopa (the white) and arctic lobelia (the blue with white centers).

Mary Leonard (left) holds a basket with another new plant that fills the basket nicely. Mary was kind enough to fill in for the scheduled presenter at the last minute. She did an outstanding job, bringing a large variety of plants, and entertaining the crowd with her wide knowledge of plants and her engaging presentation.
